Beard blog of an oil baron (19) - Dutchbeards 10 years!

This year we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. Something I never would have believed if someone had told me this 10 years ago. A great deal has happened over the past 10 years, and I have the feeling that there is still a lot ahead of us.

The exact moment when we officially turn 10 is perhaps a bit debatable, but that’s because we started rather loosely 10 years ago. And how could it be otherwise, because as mentioned earlier, 10 years ago I truly could not have imagined where we would be today. If you’d like a more formal, more celebratory, or more casual version, just let me know.

A confession...

More than 10 years ago, I grew my beard out of a kind of superstition. I won’t go into the details because that would become too personal. But my little daughter, of course, had questions about it, and unaware as I was at the time, I answered, “Daddy is going to help Santa Claus.” You can imagine that you don’t want to disappoint a 6-year-old princess, so you keep your beard at least until Santa has left.

The beard keeps growing, the need for a barber becomes more pressing, and the use of beard-care products unavoidable. And then you find nothing that appeals to you. And your wife knows a solution — “Why don’t you just make it yourself?” And before you know it, you’re selling your homemade beard oil at the “Christmas barberie” of the DBMA. Everything you made gets sold, and that’s how Dutchbeards truly came into being. If you want it to sound a bit more polished or more narrative-driven, I can refine the wording further.

Officially...

… Dutchbeards started in December 2015 with selling beard oil to the general public. However, at that time we were not yet a company. I felt—especially because it all really began with my beard adventure and my little daughter—that it was fitting to have my registration with the Chamber of Commerce take effect on her birthday. So officially, as of June 12, 2016, we have been a registered company and the sole proprietorship Dutchbeards came into existence. If you’d like, I can also smooth this into a more celebratory or brand-focused tone.

Party time

So how are you going to celebrate that? We thought about that for a long time.

We’re simply going to celebrate it all year long with discount promotions, giveaways, quizzes, and whatever else we can come up with. And we’re going to try to make this accessible for everyone. If you can order from us through the website, then you can take part—at least, that’s the plan.

It’s not only related to Dutchbeards.

Over the past 10 years, an incredible amount has happened in my/our lives.

Not everything was sunshine and roses. While some things were truly wonderful. We welcomed a new family member in the form of Florian, our foster son (now with us for almost 10 years), and he is certainly a huge help now that he’s a bit older and very good at filling bottles and packing parcels.

We have had to say goodbye to many people we love—mothers, friends, classmates, pets, and more. Some journeys were far from pleasant to go through, but they have shaped us into who we are. Most people will tell you that this is simply part of life. However, when you run your own business, you don’t always have a choice—you just have to keep going, and that’s not always easy.

Our daughter has graduated and started her further studies, my wife has changed course and begun a new career. We’ve made new friends. Said goodbye to a few…..

And new initiatives/businesses have been started, such as Dutch Unicorn, Dutch Laser, and Dutch Things. And there are still quite a few ideas waiting on the shelf.

In short, 2026 is the year to celebrate, and we’ll be keeping you updated in the coming period on how we’re going to do that.

Who is the oil baron?
Bas, built in 1971. As a producer of beard oil and other beard care products, I am constantly developing new products and looking for the edges of my creativity. I do this with great passion and above all with great pleasure. Pushing your boundaries every time, navigating between the possibilities and impossibilities of the cosmetics legislation and guidelines of the EU. Continue to innovate and amaze. This demands a lot of your creativity and sometimes causes my brain to be quite wrinkled. This made me decide to share this with you from time to time through my blog. So that you have a look behind the scenes and understand where all the nonsense comes from.
