The Struggle
We've been trying to fix our shampoo for months. I see you think, why? Is it broken then…. Yes our shampoo is broken. This is a technical term from the cosmetics world and means nothing more than that the product falls apart. Now I know from experience that a lot of people still think what is he talking about.
Is it broken??- We have been looking for a solution for months
The Explanation
If we make a cosmetic product and want to market it, this product is subjected to all kinds of tests. One of these is the 'product stability test'. Here the lifespan (shelf life) of at least 3 years is simulated over a period of 16 weeks. So if your product survives this test of at least 12 (max 16) weeks, your product has a shelf life of at least 3 years.
What happens if a product breaks down?
- A product may start to curdle (you see flakes or other particles forming)
- A product may discolor (you will see the product change color)
- A product can separate (The different components come apart (think of a layer of oil on water)
- A product can start to mold (preservation is then not in order)
- A product can smell different
- And so on..
In short, there are quite a number of aspects to look at.
Our Shampoo
In the case of our shampoo, we have a problem separating the different ingredients. We always got our base for the shampoo from England because this was the most beautiful organic shampoo we could find, let alone make it ourselves. However, this supplier has unilaterally decided to adjust the formulation (and not even inform us about this in the first place), after which this problem arose with us. In short, due to a new formulation, the base reacts differently to our fragrances than before.

Quarrel with the supplier
We spent months trying to figure out where things went wrong. The supplier accused us of changing our fragrance formulation. I can guarantee you that Stan's Bluff is still unaltered Satan's Bluff. We eventually discovered (after many trial batches) that two fragrances (essential to Satan's Bluff) clashed with the shampoo's base formula. The producer still doesn't admit his mistake and we weren't making any progress. In short, we are looking for a new supplier.
Dutch Supplier
After a long search we found a new supplier. A party for which we are actually still too small, but they still wanted to think along with us and help us. A party close to us and therefore of Dutch origin. Something we usually appreciate. Plus it's a producer that values "natural".
A first very small test batch went well. Shortly afterwards they made us a large test batch (60 liters) (I already said that we are actually too small for them). Unfortunately we didn't get the same result. This one broke again. In short, we are back to square one. And we fear the worst with our Satan's Bluff-scented shampoo.
New Scents
In any case, we are going to see if we can use this batch for new scents in our shampoo line. So that's what we're mainly working on right now. However, it is a slow process because each time you have to wait for the result of the previous batch.

We won't give up!- If Satan's Bluff can no longer be used in our shampoo, we will come up with another killer scent!!!
The most painful is…
… that the product (even if it is broken according to the cosmetic chemist) can be used after shaking. However, because there are people in this world who do not want to read the label, the chemist will not take the risk that people will use the product without shaking it first. And because your safety is also our top priority, we don't want to take that risk either.
In short, the Satan's Bluff shampoo is not available for the time being. And maybe never again, but we keep hoping that we will find a solution.
